[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] On the 20th, Kwon Seong-dong, floor leader of the People Power Party, emphasized regarding the successive allegations related to Jeong Ho-young, the nominee for Minister of Health and Welfare, "Even if the candidate is recommended by the president we produced, we will not offer unconditional protection."
In an interview with KBS Radio on the same day, Floor Leader Kwon stated, "The National Assembly will hold a hearing to engage in debate, and there will be a public evaluation. I think we should take measures accordingly." He added, "We will verify the candidate just as the public expects."
He pointed out, "If the Democratic Party has evidence or materials related to the allegations against nominee Jeong, complaints and accusations will be made, and investigations will naturally follow," but also criticized, "The Democratic Party is going beyond reasonable criticism and is almost engaging in indiscriminate political agitation."
Regarding the expression that referred to Justice Minister nominee Han Dong-hoon as a 'cancerous tumor,' he said, "The abusive language has gone too far," and explained, "The personnel hearing system was established for lawmakers to verify the morality, capability, and expertise of public office candidates on behalf of the people." He continued, "Thorough verification at the personnel hearing is important; a parade of abusive language is not verification."
