75th Cannes Film Festival, Message Contained in Jim Carrey's Ending of 'The Truman Show'

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Isul] The 75th Cannes International Film Festival has unveiled a poster inspired by the movie 'The Truman Show.'

On the 20th (Korean time), the Cannes Film Festival Secretariat explained the meaning behind this year's poster in a press release, stating, "It captures a hopeful journey reflecting on the past and moving toward revival."

The Cannes Film Festival poster decorates the front of the main center, the Palais des Festivals, and is regarded as a symbol. Each year, the poster conveys the message the festival pursues, drawing significant attention.

The 75th Cannes Film Festival presented a poster inspired by the image of actor Jim Carrey in the ending scene of the film 'The Truman Show.' The final scene depicts the protagonist Truman breaking through a massive set and stepping out into the world with courage and wisdom, evoking deep emotion. The line "Good morning, and in case I don't see ya, good afternoon, good evening, and good night" continues to be widely remembered.

The festival organizers stated, "'The Truman Show' (1998), directed by Peter Weir and written by Andrew Niccol, is a modern reflection of Plato's cave. Just as Truman rises to avoid falsehoods, the moment the audience walks up the red-carpeted stairs and enters the theater, they are offered the truth of the artists."

They added, "Like the unforgettable Truman portrayed by Jim Carrey, we move forward to recover in the face of climate crises, humanitarian disasters, and armed conflicts. We want to emphasize that, just like in 1939 and 1946, the festival is a place where art and cinema rejuvenate society."

This year's Cannes Film Festival will be held from May 17 to 28 in and around the southern French city of Cannes.
