[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] Members of the ruling Democratic Party and the opposition People Power Party, belonging to the National Assembly's Science, Technology, Information and Broadcasting Communications Committee, have agreed to hold the Information and Communications Broadcasting Bill Review Subcommittee (Subcommittee 2) on the 21st.


According to related industries on the 20th, the ruling and opposition secretaries of the National Assembly's Science and Broadcasting Committee confirmed the holding of the Subcommittee 2 meeting on the afternoon of the 21st.


The National Assembly's Science and Broadcasting Committee had planned to hold Subcommittee 2 on the 20th, but the National Assembly's schedule came to a halt as the confrontation between the ruling and opposition parties over the complete removal of prosecution investigation rights (Geomsu Wanbak) and personnel hearings reached its peak.


Democratic Party Secretary Cho Seung-rae also issued a critical statement on the 18th, saying, "Urgent ICT and media bills are anxiously waiting to be placed on the discussion table," and pointed out, "Subcommittee 1 currently has 74 bills pending, but Subcommittee 2 has 344 bills pending."


Subcommittee 2 has pending urgent bills related to the promotion of online video services (OTT), prevention of smishing crimes, the Device Distribution Act, regulatory sandboxes, and the 'bill to prevent free riding on networks,' which mandates global big tech companies such as Netflix to pay network usage fees.
