Why Did Park Seong-su, Songpa District Mayor, Visit the Songpa Saem Future Education Site? Park Seong-su, Mayor of Songpa District, is giving a greeting while observing the 'Coding and Artificial Intelligence Class Exploring with Entry' at the Songpa Saem Future Education Center Pungnap Center (Building 9).

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Park Seong-su, Mayor of Songpa District, visited five of the 14 centers of the district’s self-run education support system, ‘Songpa SSEM (Songpa Smart Education Model),’ a key project of the 7th local government, and the ‘Future Education Centers’ on the 19th to hear opinions from residents using the facilities.

The Future Education Centers are the core infrastructure of ‘Songpa SSEM,’ providing education on advanced technologies of the 4th industrial revolution such as AI, 3D printing, coding, and drones, serving as the latest multi-education facilities to help youth explore career paths. Since the opening of the first center in October 2019, a total of 14 centers have opened over two and a half years until last month, enabling residents of all 27 administrative neighborhoods in Songpa District to receive desired future education at convenient local hubs. From the start until March this year, a total of 41,130 people participated in 4,113 educational sessions over three years.

This site visit was conducted to check the operational status of the Future Education Centers and to develop educational programs reflecting the diverse needs of residents using the facilities.

On the day, Mayor Park Seong-su visited classes including ▲ Jamsilnaru Center (Center 8) ‘Pre-mentoring training’ for Songpa SSEM university student mentors ▲ Pungnap Center (Center 9) ‘Coding and AI classes exploring Entry’ ▲ Ogeum Hub (Center 7) ‘Introduction to making and project programs’ ▲ Macheon Center (Center 5) ‘Metaverse classes’ ▲ Head Center (Center 12) ‘Making daily necessities using Photoshop and 3D printing.’

In particular, he spent time communicating with students of the Ogeum Hub (Center 7) ‘Introduction to making and project programs,’ which is conducted as part of the first-year middle school free semester system, discussing their suggestions and satisfaction with the programs.

Mayor Park Seong-su said, “No matter how excellent a project is, it is meaningless if it is ignored by residents. Thanks to the residents who love the Songpa SSEM Future Education Centers, we have been able to run diverse future education programs in just two and a half years,” adding, “We will continue to develop various educational contents desired by residents and build Songpa SSEM as ‘the largest school in the world, the largest campus in Seoul.’”

The district operates ‘Songpa SSEM’ including the Future Education Centers, ▲ ‘Person Library,’ where residents can meet knowledge and wisdom of various celebrities and experts of Songpa District both online and offline ▲ ‘Instrument Library,’ where any resident can experience and enjoy musical instruments ▲ and ‘Education Portal,’ which integrates and connects 55 educational facilities and systems within the region.

Providing diverse and innovative educational programs so that anyone, regardless of age or gender, can have educational opportunities as long as they have the will to learn, the cumulative number of users reached 320,000 over three years until last year.
