Meeting with Kim Byung-jun, Special Committee Chair for Regional Balanced Development, Proposing 17 Tasks and Issues
Mayor Heo Seong-mu of Changwon City urged Kim Byung-joon, Chairman of the Special Committee on Regional Balanced Development of the Presidential Transition Committee, to reflect 17 tasks and current issues in the national agenda.
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] On the 19th, Heo Seong-mu, mayor of Changwon City, requested the Presidential Transition Committee to reflect President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol's campaign pledges for the Changwon region and key local issues as national policy tasks of the new government.
The city stated that, simultaneously with the formation of the Presidential Transition Committee, a dedicated task force for national policy tasks was established and operated. On March 22, First Deputy Mayor Ahn Kyung-won visited the offices of National Assembly members from Gyeongnam region, and on the 7th, the Director of Planning and Coordination met with the transition committee's working-level staff.
Mayor Heo Seong-mu and Kim Byung-jun, Chairman of the Special Committee on Regional Balanced Development, are exchanging opinions on campaign pledges and local issues in the Changwon area.
On that day, Mayor Heo requested Kim Byung-joon, Special Chairman for Regional Balanced Development of the Presidential Transition Committee, to incorporate 17 tasks and issues into national policy.
These include ▲ Establishment of a smart port hinterland complex at Jinhae New Port ▲ Development of a large-scale smart inland manufacturing logistics complex ▲ Construction of a Northeast Asia smart logistics platform including Changwon Industrial Line and Jinhae New Port Line ▲ Promotion of the nuclear power industry centered on Small Modular Reactors (SMR) ▲ Designation of a hydrogen specialized complex ▲ Establishment of an eco-friendly green ship demonstration cluster ▲ Creation of a digital innovation town in the new Masan Free Trade Zone.
He also urged the establishment of a high-speed railway between Dongdaegu and Changwon to realize transportation decentralization, construction of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Changwon branch in the Masan Marine New City for cultural decentralization, relocation of public institutions from the Seoul metropolitan area to Changwon, and the lifting of the greenbelt.
Mayor Heo Seong-mu said, “Changwon, the only special city outside the metropolitan area, is a model to lead local autonomy and decentralization and a dynamic laboratory to prove the success of regional balanced development. The growth of Changwon Special City will lead to the mutual development of the entire Southeast region and accelerate national balanced development, which is the top priority of the new government.”
