Cultural Heritage Administration Invests 20 Billion Won to Create Performance and Experience Spaces

Intangible Cultural Asset Lee Young-hee Donates Land for Training Center Construction

Lee Young-hee, holder of the National Intangible Cultural Heritage for Gayageum Sanjo and Byeongchang, is contributing to the Cultural Heritage Administration's construction of an intangible cultural heritage transmission education center. She is donating 5,474㎡ of her personal land.

On the 19th, the Cultural Heritage Administration will hold a donation ceremony at Lee's residence in Geumto-dong, Sujeong-gu, Seongnam-si, where the donated land is located. Lee is a traditional Korean music artist and educator. Since being recognized as a holder of Gayageum Sanjo and Byeongchang in May 1991, she has devoted herself to transmission activities. According to officials from the Cultural Heritage Administration, Lee has consistently emphasized the need for a transmission education center where intangible cultural heritage can be enjoyed and experienced in one place. Upon hearing the news that the Cultural Heritage Administration would create such a space, she willingly offered her home and personal land.

The Cultural Heritage Administration will build an intangible cultural heritage transmission education center on the donated land, with two basement floors and four above-ground floors. The project budget is approximately 20 billion KRW, and the construction period is five years. The center will be used not only for intangible cultural heritage performances but also as a space for experience and education. Kim Hyun-mo, head of the Cultural Heritage Administration, stated, "We express our sympathy and gratitude for Lee's donation," adding, "We will establish this space to also nurture successors, fostering pride and honor in the inheritance of intangible cultural heritage traditions."
