50,000 KRW per person for autonomous police working in women, youth, traffic, and public safety sectors
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] On the 19th, the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that it will provide "customized welfare points" to autonomous police officers responsible for frontline public safety to ensure the successful establishment of the autonomous police system that meets citizens' expectations.
In recognition of the autonomous police officers who risk their lives on the front lines for the safety and security of Seoul citizens, the city plans to support each autonomous police officer with 500,000 KRW, hoping they will take pride as "Seoul Metropolitan Autonomous Police" and respond to field security with greater responsibility and dedication.
Through this support, Seoul expects autonomous police officers not only to serve as guardians of safety on the front lines but also to play a direct role in developing and implementing Seoul-style security policies so that the autonomous police system can grow alongside citizens.
The targeted autonomous police officers are approximately 4,000 personnel belonging to the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency and 31 police stations, performing duties such as ensuring citizens' safety, protecting socially vulnerable groups including children and adolescents, and managing traffic safety and communication.
Additionally, Seoul plans to gradually expand the "customized welfare points" support in line with the welfare level of city officials. Considering the nature of the autonomous police officers' duties, who directly confront violent criminals at crime scenes, the city is also reviewing various morale-boosting measures such as comprehensive health check-up expenses.
Kim Hak-bae, Chairman of the Seoul Autonomous Police Committee, stated, "Improving the welfare of autonomous police officers working on the front lines not only raises morale but also enhances their field responsiveness and attracts excellent police personnel, which directly relates to citizens' safety." He added, "We will continue to prepare more diverse welfare support plans for autonomous police officers so that they can become responsible for public safety with the safety and lives of Seoul citizens as the top priority. We will strive to become a catalyst for realizing a sustainable 'Seoul-style autonomous police system.'"
