Installation of No-Smoking Zone Signs in Front of Schools
[Gokseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Cha Jongseon] Gokseong-gun, Jeonnam announced that it has newly installed and replaced no-smoking signs in school sanitation zones.
According to the "Act on the Protection of Educational Environment" and the "National Health Promotion Act," areas within a straight-line distance of 50 meters from the entrances of schools and daycare centers (within 10 meters for kindergartens) are designated as school sanitation zones.
Accordingly, Gokseong-gun installed no-smoking signs to create a smoke-free environment and prevent harmful conditions caused by smoking, such as secondhand smoke.
The installation of signs was carried out at 15 elementary, middle, and high schools, 2 kindergartens, and 9 daycare centers based on the demand from local schools.
Gokseong-gun expects that residents will be able to recognize no-smoking zones more accurately with the installation of these signs.
In addition, the county is making multifaceted efforts to foster a smoke-free environment, including no-smoking clinics, youth smoking prevention education, and smoking prevention publicity and campaigns.
A representative from the Gokseong-gun Health and Medical Center said, "Since a fine of 100,000 won is imposed for smoking within no-smoking zones, we ask for the cooperation and interest of the residents."
