[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, is implementing a new infectious disease alert service that provides advance notice of seasonal epidemic diseases to promote residents' health and strengthen the infectious disease prevention system.
Nam-gu announced on the 18th, "To create a safe community free from infectious diseases, we will officially launch the seasonal infectious disease alert service, one of the continuous response systems, starting this month."
To this end, Nam-gu plans to deliver information on seasonal epidemic infectious diseases and prevention guidelines to residents using the public health center's SNS accounts, the monthly newsletter published by the district office, and the district office website.
The infectious diseases delivered through the alert service correspond to diseases classified as level 2 to level 4 statutory infectious diseases.
Representative diseases in spring include measles, mumps, rubella, and hand, foot, and mouth disease; in summer, cholera, typhoid fever, bacillary dysentery, Vibrio vulnificus septicemia, Japanese encephalitis, and malaria.
In autumn, information on hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome, leptospirosis, and tsutsugamushi disease will be provided, while in winter, influenza, meningococcal meningitis, and rotavirus are expected to be included.
Nam-gu plans to provide guidance on symptoms, transmission routes, and prevention methods for 16 infectious diseases according to their epidemic seasons from spring to winter, and will also timely add other seasonal epidemic infectious diseases as necessary.
Additionally, to collect disease information, Nam-gu has designated a total of 111 institutions as disease information monitoring agencies, including 71 hospitals and clinics, 9 schools, 2 social welfare facilities, 1 postpartum care center, and 28 other places such as industrial sites, sharing infectious disease occurrence information with these institutions and organizations to respond to infectious diseases.
Nam-gu also operates a 24-hour infectious disease reporting surveillance system and maintains an epidemiological investigation team composed of doctors, nurses, and administrative support staff to ensure a rapid response system.
A Nam-gu official stated, "We will do our best in infectious disease response work to prevent the occurrence and spread of infectious diseases that threaten the health of local residents and to strengthen the prevention system so that residents can enjoy a healthy life."
