[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jung-wan] President Moon Jae-in's approval rating for his state affairs management and the Democratic Party of Korea's support rate recorded 42.5% and 38.6% respectively, both declining, while the People Power Party's support slightly increased.


According to the weekly aggregate survey results for the second week of April, announced on the 18th by Realmeter, a professional polling company, which conducted a survey from the 11th to the 15th targeting 2,529 men and women nationwide aged 18 and older, President Moon's approval rating for state affairs management was 42.5%, down 0.7 percentage points (p) from last week's survey (43.2%).


Negative ratings were recorded at 53.7%, up 0.5%p from last week's survey (53.2%), and 'Don't know' was 3.9%.


By age group, negative evaluations were highest among those aged 70 and above (64%), followed by those in their 20s (55.5%) and 50s (49.7%).


Party support was tallied as People Power Party 41.9%, Democratic Party 38.6%, People Party 7.3%, and Justice Party 2.9%.


The People Power Party rose 1.5%p from last week's survey, while the Democratic Party fell 1.3%p. The Democratic Party showed a decline for two consecutive weeks, following a 1.3%p drop last week.


After the presidential election, the Democratic Party's party support rebounded, surpassing the People Power Party, but in the first week of April survey, it lost the lead to the People Power Party, and the gap widened further in this survey.

On the 12th, the Democratic Party held a party caucus and unanimously adopted a party stance to pass the "검수완박" (Complete Prosecution Reform) bill within President Moon's term, after which the People Power Party, the Presidential Transition Committee, and the prosecution expressed opposition to this move.


According to daily changes in this poll, after the Democratic Party caucus on the 12th, the Democratic Party's support dropped from 39.0% to 37.7% on the 14th, while during the same period, the People Power Party's support rose from 41.1% to 44.7%.


This survey was conducted using an automated response telephone (ARS) method with 97% mobile and 3% landline. The response rate was 6.4%, and the margin of error was ±1.9%p at a 95% confidence level. For more details, refer to the Central Election Poll Deliberation Commission website.
