[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] On the 16th, former Minister of SMEs and Startups Park Young-sun made a public appearance by visiting the election office of Heo Young-il, the Democratic Party preliminary candidate for Dongjak District Mayor. This marks the first time she has publicly supported a basic local government head candidate ahead of the June local elections, drawing attention.
That afternoon, former Minister Park publicly endorsed Heo Young-il, who served as the digital innovation spokesperson for Democratic Party presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung, by visiting Heo's election office.
In a 3-minute and 14-second video posted by candidate Heo, former Minister Park introduced him as "a person who has made great contributions to democracy in the Republic of Korea and is well known for implementing policies in a very pragmatic way." She also emphasized their connection by saying, "When I ran as a candidate for Seoul Mayor in the April 2021 by-election, he played an outstanding role as the campaign spokesperson."
Former Minister Park introduced Heo's strengths and pledges in an interview format. Referring to Heo's core pledge, she first mentioned the slogan "Development Without Delay" and asked, "How do you plan to speed up the process?" In response, Heo said, "There are places that need development and projects underway, but there have been many delays causing public dissatisfaction. Based on my experience and connections from working in the National Assembly and government, I will proceed with development swiftly."
Former Minister Park said, "That's right. Candidate Heo really has a very extensive network," emphasizing, "To speed things up, you need to know many people."
She then introduced the slogan "Change Without Hesitation" and asked, "What kind of changes will you bring to Dongjak?" Heo replied, "As we are moving into the digital era, I will ensure Dongjak District secures competitiveness that surpasses Gangnam, creating a transformed Dongjak."
Additionally, when former Minister Park praised, "Dongjak has many hills, and if beautifully maintained, it could become the most beautiful district in Seoul. Also, since it borders the Han River, there must be many ideas that other districts cannot imitate, which must be full in your mind," Heo confidently responded, "I have a secret pledge to preserve the Han River view."
The interview-style endorsement video released that day was reportedly planned spontaneously by former Minister Park.
Candidate Heo said, "I asked for a cheering message, but suddenly she grabbed me and conducted an interview," adding, "I was very surprised. Thank you. I will definitely win."
