Imsil-gun Advances 'Comprehensive Flood and Wind Disaster Living Area Improvement Project'... Secures 48 Billion Won

[Imsil=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Nosik] Imsil-gun, Jeonbuk, is set to fully launch the Osu District Comprehensive Flood Damage Living Zone Improvement Project, the largest single-scale project in the area.

The county announced on the 15th that it will begin the "Osu District Comprehensive Flood Damage Living Zone Improvement Project," which secured 48 billion KRW last year as the largest single project funding, starting this month.

This improvement project is a combined effort led by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety to efficiently improve disaster-prone areas by integrating existing individual projects from various ministries, including the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s disaster prevention projects, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s river maintenance projects, and the Ministry of Environment’s sewer pipe projects.

Previously, the county participated in the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s public contest last year to establish permanent damage prevention measures to protect the lives and property of residents in the Osu area from rapidly changing weather anomalies, successfully securing a total project cost of 48 billion KRW, the largest ever.

This year, with a budget of 2.4 billion KRW, the county will collect residents’ opinions through public briefings, conduct basic and detailed design services, and establish comprehensive measures for disaster prevention projects overall.

Over five years, the project will proceed until 2026, including maintenance of 6.3 km of stormwater drainage pipes, construction of three drainage pumping stations, maintenance of 0.76 km of small streams, 0.25 km of local rivers, and five bridges.

Additionally, the Imsil District Comprehensive Flood Damage Living Zone Improvement Project, selected in 2019, has completed administrative procedures and last month requested procurement orders to begin full-scale project implementation.

With a total project cost of 36.9 billion KRW, the plan is to complete by 2024 river maintenance of 1.3 km in the Imsil-eup area, maintenance of 7.8 km of stormwater drainage pipes, installation of one pumping station, reconstruction of two bridges, and one movable weir.

The county has secured momentum to make Imsil safe from natural disasters through the Osu District Comprehensive Flood Damage Living Zone Improvement Project.

To protect residents’ property and lives, the county plans to continuously discover new projects for natural disaster prevention, secure national and provincial funding, and work harder to create a safe environment from disasters.

Guk Yeonho, Director of Safety Management, said, “Since this is the largest-scale improvement project ever undertaken, we will pay special attention to ensure it proceeds without any setbacks. Once completed, it will establish permanent damage prevention measures against disasters and greatly contribute to making Imsil safe.”
