[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] A memorial mass and special exhibition will be held to commemorate the first anniversary of the passing of the late Cardinal Jeong Jin-seok.
According to the Catholic Archdiocese of Seoul on the 14th, a memorial mass will be held at 10 a.m. on the 27th, the anniversary of Cardinal Jeong's passing, at Myeongdong Cathedral, presided over by Archbishop Jeong Soon-taek, the head of the archdiocese. Memorial masses honoring Cardinal Jeong will also be held on the same day at various parishes, institutions, and organizations within the archdiocese.
At the clergy cemetery in Yongin, where Cardinal Jeong's tomb is located, a memorial mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on the 30th, presided over by Vicar General Bishop Son Hee-song.
The Archdiocese of Seoul has designated the official memorial period for the first anniversary of Cardinal Jeong's passing from the 21st to the 27th and has prepared various events. From the 21st to May 1st, the 'Starlight-like Person - Cardinal Jeong Jin-seok Nicolaus Photo Exhibition' will be held at the underground 1898 Plaza of Myeongdong Cathedral. The exhibition features about 30 photos divided into periods of Cardinal Jeong's life: before his episcopal ordination, during his time as Bishop of Cheongju Diocese, as Archbishop of Seoul Archdiocese, and after retirement.
More than 60 books authored by the late Cardinal during his lifetime will also be available for visitors to read on-site.
The first anniversary memorial special exhibition, 'Everything to Everyone,' will also be held from the 27th in the exhibition hall on the second floor of the Catholic Archdiocese of Seoul History Museum. 'Everything to Everyone' was the pastoral motto of the late Cardinal during his lifetime.
The special exhibition, which continues until October, will showcase over 160 items including Cardinal Jeong's baptism and confirmation certificates, the Code of Canon Law he enjoyed reading since his school days, letters sent to the late Bishop Jang Ik's brother Jang Geon while serving as an interpreter during the Korean War in the United States, and the bishop's ring worn at the installation mass as Archbishop of Seoul Archdiocese.
