[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] Pukyong National University has taken steps to expand its global network by opening and operating master's and doctoral programs for faculty and staff of Chinese universities for the first time.

On the 14th, Pukyong National University held an orientation for the 'Global PKNU Overseas University Faculty Graduate Program' at Somin Hall on the 2nd floor of the Future Hall and officially began operations.

The university recently launched the graduate program for Chinese university faculty and staff this semester in response to China's policy to expand the number of doctoral degree holders among its higher education institution faculty.

Since last year, Pukyong National University has recruited and promoted the program, enrolling 30 Chinese university faculty members, including 15 professors, in this course.

They belong to 23 higher education institutions across China, including Guangdong Ocean University, Hebei Academy of Arts, Henan University of Technology, and Nanyang University of Technology.

Participants pursue doctoral and master's degrees in majors such as Educational Consulting, Industrial Design, Fashion Design, English Language and Literature, Physical Education, and Computer Engineering.

Starting this semester, they will receive degrees upon completing the full curriculum, including Korean language training, common courses, field research, major credits, and graduation thesis.

Pukyong National University will continuously support participants by providing dormitory assignments, thesis translation, and international student management assistants, and plans to expand the program annually by assessing demand from Chinese universities.

Yoon Il, Director of the International Exchange Headquarters at Pukyong National University, said, “By proactively establishing and operating a customized degree program for overseas university faculty challenging master's and doctoral degrees, we expect to expand new student recruitment and contribute to building a global network for international education and research revitalization.”
