[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Ahead of the June 1 local elections, as the competition within the Democratic Party of Korea for the Dongdaemun District Mayor candidate position intensifies, allegations have arisen that the list of party members with voting rights has been leaked, drawing attention.
Yoon Jong-il, a preliminary candidate running for Dongdaemun District Mayor, stated in a press release, "I have repeatedly heard from people who joined the party supporting me that they received text messages from a specific candidate," and claimed, "The list I submitted to the party has leaked to the opposing candidate's side."
He also urged, "A responsible and thorough investigation by the party must be conducted."
According to Candidate Yoon, he personally submitted to the party a list of party members with voting rights recruited mainly among relatives and acquaintances who were asked to support him. During the party's primary preparation process, these members reportedly continued to receive text messages asking them to support Candidate A, his competitor.
Yoon Jong-il, preliminary candidate for Dongdaemun District Mayor, stated, "If the leakage of the party member list is true, it is an act that undermines party democracy and constitutes a violation of the Personal Information Protection Act and the Election Act, subject to legal punishment," and added, "I strongly demand a detailed disclosure of the truth regarding the leakage of the list of party members with voting rights for a fair and transparent election."
