Ministry of Employment raids Samyang Packaging headquarters... "Investigating potential violation of Serious Accident Punishment Act"

[Asia Economy Sejong=Reporter Lee Jun-hyung] Employment authorities have launched a search and seizure operation at the headquarters of Samyang Packaging in connection with a worker's death accident at the Jincheon plant of Samyang Packaging.

On the 14th, the Ministry of Employment and Labor announced that it is conducting search and seizure at three locations: Samyang Packaging headquarters, Jincheon plant, and subcontractor offices. Earlier, on the 5th of this month, the Ministry had been investigating violations of the Serious Accidents Punishment Act and the Occupational Safety and Health Act related to the death of a subcontractor worker who was caught in machinery at the Jincheon plant of Samyang Packaging. The Jincheon plant of Samyang Packaging is a workplace with more than 50 employees and is subject to the Serious Accidents Punishment Act.

The CEO of Samyang Packaging also appears to be under investigation. Through this search and seizure, the Ministry of Employment and Labor plans to examine whether the management's obligations have been fulfilled. A Ministry official stated, "We will thoroughly verify whether the individual safety and health measures obligation of the safety and health general manager and the corporate-level safety and health assurance obligation assigned to the management have been lawfully fulfilled."
