SK Plasma, Blood Donation Campaign for 'World Hemophilia Day'

SK Plasma, Blood Donation Campaign for 'World Hemophilia Day' SK Plasma is holding a blood donation event to commemorate "World Hemophilia Day."

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] SK Plasma announced on the 14th that it will hold a blood donation campaign with SK affiliates' members on the 17th to commemorate 'World Hemophilia Day.'

Hemophilia is a congenital bleeding disorder caused by the absence or deficiency of clotting factors in the blood. The World Federation of Hemophilia (WFH) established April 17th as 'World Hemophilia Day' in 1989 to raise awareness of hemophilia and bleeding disorders.

The blood donation campaign will be conducted targeting members working at SK affiliates including SK Plasma, SK Chemicals, SK Gas, SK D&D, and the Andong SK Plasma factory.

SK Plasma, which sells blood products such as the hemophilia treatment drug Apsila and the essential medicine albumin, will provide additional gifts such as gifticons to participants, in addition to the existing blood donation souvenirs and volunteer points, to encourage more blood donation participation.

The blood donation certificates donated through the campaign will be delivered to hemophilia patients through patient associations. Also, SK Plasma has been posting a banner commemorating Hemophilia Day on its website since last week and delivering support messages for hemophilia patients.

An SK Plasma official said, "We planned this campaign to support the health of patients suffering from rare diseases on the occasion of Hemophilia Day," adding, "In addition to supplying hemophilia treatments and blood products, we will continuously communicate with patients with rare and intractable diseases and seek various ways the company can contribute."

Meanwhile, Apsila is the world's first and only hemophilia A treatment designed with single-chain technology, improving in vivo stability and duration of efficacy. SK Chemicals developed NBP601, the original new substance of Apsila, and exported the technology to CSL Behring in 2009. SK Plasma, which owns the domestic sales rights, has been selling it since last year.
