[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jin-ho] LG Electronics announced on the 14th that it will officially launch the 'LG CLOi UV-C Bot,' a robot for contactless disinfection, in the domestic market.

The LG CLOi robot lineup operated by LG Electronics has expanded to a total of six models: ▲UV-C Bot ▲Guide Bot ▲Sub Bot (shelf type/drawer type) two types ▲Chef Bot ▲Barista Bot.

The LG CLOi UV-C Bot is optimized for contactless disinfection tasks in buildings with many separated spaces, such as hotels or hospitals with many rooms, at a time when disinfection has become more important due to COVID-19. Its advantage is that it can perform contactless disinfection frequently without time constraints.

The LG CLOi UV-C Bot operates based on autonomous driving and obstacle avoidance technology. It moves along walls inside spaces and sterilizes the surfaces of objects touched by people with UV-C lamps installed on both sides of its body. UV-C is ultraviolet light with a wavelength of 100 to 280 nanometers (nm), mainly used to eliminate various bacteria.

The UV-C lamps on the robot remove 99.999% of harmful bacteria such as pneumonia bacillus, Staphylococcus aureus, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa within a 50 cm range. LG Electronics explained that it has been certified by the global testing and certification organization Intertek.

Management is also convenient. Users can check the sterilization progress status and work areas in real time through the dedicated LG CLOi UV-C Bot app, and also receive operation control and work completion notifications.

LG Electronics plans to supply the LG CLOi UV-C Bot to Seoul Seongdong-gu Office, Jeju Library, and hospitals within this month.

LG Electronics' Robot Business Manager Executive Director Noh Kyu-chan said, “Through LG's differentiated robot solutions that can respond to customer needs in various spaces, we will not only provide customers with new experiences and value but also continuously introduce robot service solutions that help daily life.”
