[Asia Economy Reporter Kangwook Cho] The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 14th that a total of 54,390 vehicles across 13 models manufactured or imported and sold by seven companies, including Ford Sales Service Korea, Hyundai Motor Company, Honda Korea, and Tesla Korea, have been found to have manufacturing defects and will undergo voluntary corrective actions (recalls).
A total of 19,733 units of the Explorer imported and sold by Ford Korea were found to have issues where some parts within the rear wheel suspension (rear suspension tow link) may break due to insufficient durability, potentially causing steering to malfunction while driving.
A total of 17,682 units of the Nexo manufactured and sold by Hyundai Motor Company are being recalled due to concerns that the hydrogen detection sensor’s performance degradation may prevent the warning light from illuminating in the event of a hydrogen gas leak, posing a safety risk.
A total of 15,323 units of five models, including the Accord Hybrid imported and sold by Honda Korea, were found to have a design defect in the electric window main switch, which allows the window to be operated even after the engine is turned off and the car door is opened, violating safety standards.
A total of 1,290 units of the Model S imported and sold by Tesla Korea were found to have a software error in the vehicle control system, causing the reverse lights to illuminate while driving forward, which is a safety standard non-compliance issue.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport plans to first allow Honda Korea and Tesla Korea to proceed with voluntary recalls and will impose fines later based on the correction rates and other factors.
A total of 159 units of the Discovery SD4 imported and sold by Jaguar Land Rover Korea were recalled due to the low-pressure fuel hose being improperly routed, causing friction with surrounding parts, which may damage the fuel hose and lead to fuel leakage and potential fire hazards.
A total of 80 units of the Golf 8 2.0 GTI imported and sold by Volkswagen Group Korea were found to have engine covers improperly fixed, which may melt upon contact with engine heat and potentially cause fires.
A total of 123 units of three motorcycle models, including the K 1600 GT imported and sold by BMW Korea, are being recalled due to insufficient durability of some parts within the rear wheel suspension (rear suspension link), which may break and affect driving safety.
Vehicles subject to this recall can receive free repairs or software updates at official service centers of each manufacturer or seller.
