'Grandmother, Daughter, and Granddaughter' Three Generations Caught Selling Drugs... All Found Guilty A grandmother in her 70s, her daughter in her 40s, and granddaughter in her 20s were all found guilty on charges including possession and multiple sales of methamphetamine.

[Asia Economy Reporter Yoon Seul-gi] A grandmother in her 70s, her daughter in her 40s, and granddaughter in her 20s?three generations?were each sentenced to imprisonment and suspended imprisonment for possession and multiple sales of methamphetamine.

On the 13th, the Daejeon District Court Criminal Division 8 (Presiding Judge Cha Joo-hee) sentenced grandmother A (71), who was indicted for violating the Narcotics Control Act, to 1 year in prison and a fine of 9.3 million won. A’s daughter B (47), also indicted on the same charges, was sentenced to 10 months in prison with a 2-year suspended sentence, and granddaughter C (23) was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison with a 3-year suspended sentence. Additionally, fines of 750,000 won and 6.5 million won were imposed on them respectively, along with probation orders.

The court stated the sentencing reasons, saying, "Considering the number of offenses and the volume distributed, the culpability is serious. However, we took into account that all defendants acknowledged their wrongdoing and showed remorse."

Previously, the family members were prosecuted for selling methamphetamine 16 times over about a year from April 2020 to April 2021. Evidence also revealed that they conspired or individually sold drugs.

Investigations showed that mainly grandmother A directed daughter B and granddaughter C to sell drugs. It was even found that A gave drug sales instructions to B and C while in prison. A was serving a sentence after being sentenced to 3 years and 6 months in prison last December for violating the Narcotics Control Act.
