[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] On the 13th (local time), the United Kingdom announced that it would impose sanctions on 178 pro-Russian separatists in Ukraine together with the European Union (EU).

The UK government stated that there have been multiple reports that Russia brutally targeted civilians in areas where pro-Russian separatists are present in Ukraine.

The sanctions include self-proclaimed prime ministers of the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics.

The UK government said that the new sanctions target a total of 206 individuals, including six Russian oligarchs and their families, such as the wife of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

The UK announced that since Russia's invasion of Ukraine, it has sanctioned a total of 1,400 individuals and entities, including about 100 oligarchs and their families.

Additionally, the UK government will ban the export of bilateral technology, advanced materials, luxury goods, and the import of Russian steel products, which Russia desperately needs, starting from the 14th.

UK Foreign Secretary Liz Truss said, "Following the horrific attacks targeting civilians in eastern Ukraine, we are sanctioning those who support the illegal separation of this region and have committed atrocities against the Ukrainian people," adding, "We will continue to target those who have aided Russian President Vladimir Putin's war."
