[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Chae Hyun-il) announced that the traffic control schedule for the spring flower road behind the National Assembly on Yeouiseo-ro has been changed to be lifted at 11 a.m. on the 14th, four days earlier than originally planned, and the pedestrian path will be closed from 10 p.m. on the 13th.

This decision was made to shorten the opening and traffic control schedule of the spring flower road due to the early heat starting last weekend and the temperature drop brought by spring rain, which caused the cherry blossom fall rate to exceed 70%.

The 1.7 km section of the spring flower road on Yeouiseo-ro, from the southern end of Seogang Bridge to the National Assembly Members' Office intersection, originally scheduled from noon on April 8 to noon on April 18, will have traffic control lifted at 11 a.m. on the 14th, and pedestrians will only be allowed to walk on the sidewalks.

Since Yeouiseo-ro spring flower road was opened for the first time in three years after the spread of COVID-19, the district prioritized the safety of visitors by deploying about 2,500 order-maintenance safety personnel throughout the area, ensuring pedestrians could only walk in the right direction, and worked hard to maintain a safe and pleasant environment.

According to Yeongdeungpo-gu's own investigation, about 260,000 visitors came to the Yeouiseo-ro spring flower road last weekend, showing the great interest and desire of people for the Yeouido cherry blossom road and spring outings.

Chae Hyun-il, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, said, “Due to the rapid fall of cherry blossoms and spring rain, the opening schedule of the Yeouiseo-ro spring flower road has been shortened. I thank the visitors who cooperated to ensure the spring flower road, opened for the first time in three years, could be operated safely and cleanly, and I hope that a spring flower festival can be held on-site in Yeouido next spring.”

No Hyun-song, Mayor of Gangseo-gu, attended the groundbreaking ceremony of the ‘Gangseo Safety Education Center (tentative name)’ held at Balsan Neighborhood Park in Gangseo-gu, Seoul, at 3 p.m. on the 13th and performed the commemorative groundbreaking.

The Safety Education Center will be a three-story building with a total floor area of 3,825㎡, housing 12 safety experience facilities including earthquake, fire, and traffic safety, as well as a civil defense training hall.

The district plans to invest a total project cost of 23 billion KRW aiming for completion in 2024, with participation from Seoul City and the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education.

About 20 people, including Mayor No Hyun-song, Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education Superintendent Cho Hee-yeon, city and district council members, and representatives of local residents, attended the groundbreaking ceremony.
