Dobong-gu to Provide Workplace Violence Prevention Training for Managers Grade 5 and Above... Yongsan-gu to Host 42nd Disability Day Event at Yongsan-gu Disabled Community Center on 14th at 2 PM
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Yongsan-gu (District Mayor Seongjang Hyun) held a proclamation ceremony for the ‘City of Patriotic Martyrs, Yongsan’ at 2 p.m. on the 12th at the outdoor stage of Hyochang Park (177-18 Hyochangwon-ro) to commemorate the 103rd anniversary of the establishment of the Provisional Government.
The proclamation ceremony was held for one hour with 200 attendees including Yongsan District Mayor Seongjang Hyun, representatives from the Independence Movement Memorial Association, and members of the Yongsan District Council. The program included poetry recitations, memorial performances, introduction of guests, commemorative video and musical gala concert, commemorative speeches and congratulatory remarks, proclamation, and commemorative photo session.
Yongsan District Mayor Seongjang Hyun said, “It is the natural duty and mission of our descendants living in this era to further illuminate and widely publicize the deeds of the patriotic martyrs. I am honored to hold the proclamation ceremony for the City of Patriotic Martyrs in Yongsan, where key figures of the Provisional Government are enshrined and the spirit of independence is fully preserved.”
The district designated April 11 to April 22 as the Commemoration Week for the Proclamation of the City of Patriotic Martyrs, Yongsan. Starting with the memorial ceremony at Uiryeolsa on the 11th, exhibitions such as the special exhibition on Choi Jae-hyung and performances will be held to re-examine Yongsan’s independence heroes.
Dobong-gu (District Mayor Lee Dong-jin) conducted violence prevention education on workplace sexual violence and sexual harassment for public officials at grade 5 and above at the district office’s CR Hall on the 12th.
The education focused on preventing gender-based violence in the workplace, especially emphasizing the responsibility of managers to eradicate power-based sexual crimes.
Gender specialist Min-soon Seo, who led the session, provided various related cases to illustrate the role and response of managers in sexual violence and harassment incidents, measures to prevent secondary damage, and ways to enhance gender sensitivity, delivering customized education for managers.
Violence prevention education for managers has been conducted annually since 2018 as a pledge of the 7th local government administration, and since 2022, separate customized education for managers has been mandated under the guidelines of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family.
Dobong District Mayor Lee Dong-jin said, “We will raise gender sensitivity to prevent all forms of gender-based violence and strive from within the public service to make Dobong a women-friendly and gender-equal district.”
Yongsan-gu (District Mayor Seongjang Hyun) will hold the ‘42nd Yongsan-gu Disabled Persons Day’ commemorative ceremony at 2 p.m. on the 14th in the multipurpose auditorium on the basement first floor of the district’s Disabled Community Center.
The event aims to increase public understanding of people with disabilities and boost their rehabilitation motivation.
The ceremony will last 60 minutes and include a pre-ceremony performance, national anthem, introduction of guests, reading of the Disabled Persons Human Rights Charter, awards for meritorious persons, and congratulatory speeches. The district will livestream the ceremony online. It can be viewed by searching ‘Yongsan-gu Disabled Welfare Organizations Council’ on YouTube and accessing the channel.
The award recipients on the day include Lee Byung-seok, Lee Wook-jung, Kim Hye-young, Kim Ki-hong, Park Jong-seon, Lee Ja-hyung, and the Korea Railroad Corporation Metropolitan Headquarters (institution), totaling seven people. To prevent the spread of COVID-19, only some of the total 13 awardees will attend the event.
A district official said, “The Disabled Persons Day event is a festival where people with and without disabilities come together. We hope this event will help eliminate prejudice against disabilities and broaden mutual understanding.”
The district also prepared a ‘Disability Awareness Improvement Week’ event on the 15th.
The week’s events will be operated by a ‘prior reservation system’ divided into morning and afternoon sessions for quarantine management. The venue is the 1st to 4th floors of the district Disabled Community Center. Major programs include ▲Reading books while wearing low-vision simulation glasses (1st floor) ▲Disability awareness quiz (2nd floor) ▲Writing my name with a braille typewriter (3rd floor) ▲Learning sign language (4th floor).

Yongsan District Mayor Seongjang Hyun said, “When we recognize the value of diversity, our society becomes richer. The district will take the lead in improving awareness of disabilities so that differences do not lead to inconvenience or discrimination.”
In 2019, the district declared the Year of Disability Welfare and built the Yongsan-gu Disabled Community Center (245 Seobinggo-ro). The center spans basement 1 to 4 floors with a total floor area of 1,496㎡, consolidating facilities for the convenience of people with disabilities in one place. In January 2022, the district renovated unused space in the health branch office to establish the Yongsan-gu Lifelong Education Center for People with Developmental Disabilities (329 Baekbeom-ro).
