[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Sancheong-gun, Gyeongnam is making every effort to discover strategies to revitalize the increase of the local population.
On the afternoon of the 12th, Sancheong-gun held a "Population Vitality Forum with the Local Extinction Response Fund Strategy Team" at the county office.
About 40 people attended the forum, including Jo Hyung-ho, Deputy Governor of Sancheong and head of the response strategy team, resident councils, advisory groups, the working promotion team, and forum members.
Ways to discover investment projects to maximize the acquisition of the government's local extinction response fund were discussed.
The local extinction response fund is a project in which the government invests a total of 10 trillion won over 10 years, with 1 trillion won annually, in 89 areas experiencing population decline.
It is not a budget distributed uniformly but is supported differentially by evaluating each local government's population extinction response investment plan.
Since last year, the county has been making various efforts such as meetings, resident surveys, population vitality idea contests, and executive official strategy meetings to find investment projects that harmonize well with local conditions and meet residents' needs.
Since February, expert groups have been discovering population decline response items through research projects.
At this forum, a mid-term review and discussion were held on projects in all fields such as housing, education, transportation, culture, income crops, returning to farming, returning to rural areas, and medical care, which were discovered through idea contests, meetings, surveys, and research projects.
Opinions were also shared on expanding infrastructure and support in various fields, including spaces for youth, food, expansion of the Donguibogam Village program, and utilization of the cotton market platform led by the private sector.
A member of a resident council said, "I hope this will be a foundation to build the capacity to actively respond to local extinction," and added, "I hope that by securing the local extinction response fund as much as possible, infrastructure desired by residents will be established in Sancheong."
