Heoseok, Suncheon Mayor Preliminary Candidate, Let's Create a 'Moms' World Easier for Raising Children

Reduction of Class Capacity in Daycare Centers... Conversion of Girls' Middle Schools to Coeducational Schools

Heoseok, Suncheon Mayor Preliminary Candidate, Let's Create a 'Moms' World Easier for Raising Children

[Suncheon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Heo Seok, a prospective candidate for re-election as mayor of Suncheon, announced on the 13th childcare and education pledges to create a ‘Moms’ world where young parents can raise their children more comfortably.

First, to significantly reduce the postpartum care cost burden for pregnant women, he pledged to provide 1 million won for postpartum care expenses and to reduce the class size in daycare centers.

The public postpartum care center promised during the 7th local government term is scheduled to officially open this December with 10 maternity rooms inside the Hyundai Women and Children’s Hospital.

In addition, the ‘class size reduction project,’ which reduces the number of children per daycare teacher, will be expanded to private daycare centers, and the increased personnel costs for childcare teachers will be supported.

This project aims to reduce the number of children each childcare teacher is responsible for, thereby decreasing work stress and allowing parents to send their children to daycare centers with peace of mind.

Accordingly, the number of children cared for by a teacher in the 0-year-old class will be reduced from 3 to 2, and in the 3-year-old class from 15 to 12.

Candidate Heo Seok stated, “The way for all children, parents, and teachers in our region to be happy is to improve the quality of childcare by reducing the workload and stress of daycare teachers,” adding, “We will spare no support to make daycare centers safer and more enjoyable.”

Meanwhile, he also announced pledges regarding the establishment, reorganization, and relocation of elementary, middle, and high schools due to urban development.

In the planned development area of Seonwol District, Haeryong-myeon, he pledged to establish one kindergarten, two elementary schools, and one middle school, and to reorganize Suncheon Girls’ Middle School and Dongsan Girls’ Middle School into coeducational schools.

Also, Isu Middle School in Saengmok-dong will be reorganized into a coeducational school and relocated to Seomyeon, where the population has recently increased, to prepare for the rise in middle school students in the western area, including the new residential complex on the industrial complex site.

Especially, since Samsan Middle School moved to the Shindae District in 2020, this area has been unable to accommodate the increased demand for middle school students from new apartment complexes in Yongdang-dong and Seomyeon.

Additionally, he plans to allow youths under 18 to use city buses for 100 won.

Candidate Heo Seok fulfilled 100% of his childbirth and childcare pledges during the 7th local government term, including ▲support for daycare center air purifier rental fees ▲expansion of treatment improvements for daycare childcare staff ▲implementation of free childcare at daycare centers (support for differential childcare fees), followed by ▲support for folic acid supplements for newlyweds ▲support for infertility treatment costs and oriental medicine infertility treatment for infertile couples ▲support for health checkups and nutritional supplements for pregnant women ▲support for medical expenses for newborn hearing loss and high-risk pregnant women.

Candidate Heo Seok is from Haeryong-myeon, Suncheon, graduated from Suncheon High School and Seoul National University’s Department of Economics, and has served as director of the Labor Issues Research Institute that opens the dawn, and co-chairman of the Jeonnam joint election campaign committee for presidential candidate Moon Jae-in.

In the 2018 Suncheon mayoral election, he was the only Democratic Party mayoral candidate elected in the three cities of the eastern Jeonnam region and is currently serving as mayor of Suncheon during the 7th local government term.
