Wanju-gun Significantly Expands Security CCTV Coverage


[Wanju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Han-ho] Wanju County announced on the 13th that it will significantly expand the installation of security CCTV cameras connected to the Integrated Control Center in crime-prone areas to enhance residents' safety.


Wanju County plans to invest 3.6 billion KRW to additionally install a total of 277 CCTV cameras in the first half of this year: 154 cameras at 50 locations in the Bongdong-eup 2nd General Industrial Complex and support district, 99 cameras at 33 locations in the Yongjin-eup Ungok district, 9 cameras at 3 locations in Yongjin Sports Park, 4 cameras at 1 location in Gosan Cultural Park, and 11 cameras at 6 major roads within the jurisdiction for crime prevention.


Starting with 247 CCTV cameras in 2013, the number of security CCTV cameras connected to Wanju County’s Integrated Control Center will increase significantly to a total of 1,288 once the additional installations are completed this year.


With the installation of vehicle license plate recognition cameras, it is expected to maximize the crime detection rate and improve the crime prevention effect in vulnerable areas.


In fact, last year, there were nearly 440 cases responded to through CCTV, with a detection rate of 83%. Additionally, about 180 vehicle crime alerts were registered, and maintenance personnel were dispatched to the field over 1,500 times, showing considerable achievements.
