Infrastructure Expansion to Meet Tourism Demand Linked to Imjadaegyo Bridge Opening
[Sinan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Jae-kyung] Jeonnam Sinan-gun completed the parking lot and bypass road construction project on the 8th to resolve traffic inconveniences caused by increased traffic volume after the opening of Imja Bridge.
The Imja Hongmaehwa & Tulip Park, which started the first Tulip Festival in 2008, has seen an increasing number of tourists every year, reaching up to 103,000 visitors, becoming one of the best parks in Korea.
Since the opening of Imja Bridge last year, accessibility has improved, attracting more tourists. To solve the resulting traffic problems, the county invested a total budget of 2.1 billion KRW to complete the parking lot and bypass road construction.
The parking lot, with a project cost of 1.5 billion KRW, covers a total area of 16,528㎡ (5,000 pyeong) and accommodates 500 vehicles. Including the previously installed parking lots, the facilities have been upgraded to allow parking for about 950 vehicles at once.
Additionally, 600 million KRW was invested in constructing the Gwangsan bypass road, expanding and paving a 1.1 km asphalt concrete route with a width of 6 meters to be used as a bypass road. Among this, a 316-meter section of the designed road route was created as an eco-friendly forest path, making it a walking trail where visitors can fully enjoy nature.
With this parking lot and bypass road construction project, the annually recurring traffic congestion has disappeared, greatly improving the traffic environment, which is expected to significantly help revitalize the local economy through increased tourism revenue.
A county official stated, “Although it is regrettable that the Hongmaehwa Tulip Festival, which was prepared with great effort, was canceled, next year we plan to expand more tourism infrastructure to provide many attractions and experiential activities.”
