Honam University Selected for Ministry of Education K-MOOC for 3 Consecutive Years


[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Honam University announced on the 13th that it has continued its remarkable achievement of being selected for three consecutive years in the Ministry of Education’s online lifelong education system, the ‘Korean Massive Open Online Course (K-MOOC)’ new course contest.


The newly selected bundle of courses in the ‘Artificial Intelligence Convergence (AI+X) Future Strategy Field’ consists of a total of four topics. Based on the first stage ‘AI+Future Technology,’ the second stage offers data analysis learning for AI convergence in the fields of energy, mobility (autonomous driving, drones), and healthcare, as well as applied learning based on real-world case studies, designed as courses tailored to learners’ levels.


Professor Baek Ran, head of the Honam University AI Big Data Research Institute (Department of Computer Engineering), serves as the lead professor, and 12 field experts including top domestic and international professors, industry CEOs, and hospital directors will develop a new educational model on emerging new technologies in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution through team teaching.


Honam University, the nation’s only ‘AI-specialized university,’ has successfully developed and operated K-MOOC designated courses in the AI field starting in 2020 (Autonomous Driving AI Solved by Mathematics), followed by advanced courses last year (Blockchain Solved by Mathematics), and individual courses (Public Health Necessary for Everyone). Last year, it also successfully operated the ‘Curious Wednesday, Special Lectures for IT Novices’ series (with about 5,200 participants), leading the popularization of AI.


Additionally, through ‘Vision 2028,’ the university declared ‘University Education Innovation for AI Convergence Talent Cultivation,’ restructuring the curriculum for cultivating AI convergence talents among all students and strengthening the substance of AI education through the establishment of an AI campus.


Professor Jang Yoon-kyung, director of the Teaching and Learning Development Center, stated, “We will leverage the strengths of an AI-specialized university to develop and disseminate high-quality online content to contribute to the popularization of AI,” adding, “We will continue to strive for the systematic establishment of Honam University’s AI Convergence K-MOOC courses through ongoing course development.”
