[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hyowon] As the domestic Omicron variant wave shows a declining trend, the number of COVID-19 confirmed cases nationwide was counted at 160,000 as of 6 p.m. on the 11th. This is more than double the number at the same time the previous day.

COVID-19: 159,859 New Cases Nationwide by 6 PM... Double Compared to Previous Day On the 11th, the streets of Myeongdong in Seoul were crowded with citizens as the number of new COVID-19 cases fell below 100,000 for the first time in 48 days.

According to Seoul Metropolitan Government and other local governments, from midnight to 6 p.m. on this day, 159,859 people were confirmed positive for COVID-19 across 17 cities and provinces nationwide. This figure is more than twice the 75,968 cases recorded during the same time frame the previous day.

The number of confirmed cases decreased the previous day due to a reduction in testing on the holiday, but as testing increased on this day, the number of confirmed cases appears to have risen again.

However, compared to the count at the same time one week ago on the 4th (202,829 cases) and two weeks ago on the 28th of last month (244,419 cases), it is 42,970 and 84,560 cases fewer respectively, showing an overall clear declining trend.

Since there is still time until midnight when the count is finalized, the new confirmed cases to be announced on the 12th are expected to be higher than this.

As of 6 p.m. on this day, new confirmed cases were 79,208 (49.5%) in the metropolitan area and 80,651 (50.5%) in non-metropolitan areas.

By region, the numbers are as follows: Gyeonggi 41,763, Seoul 28,815, Gyeongnam 9,934, Incheon 8,630, Daegu 8,518, Chungnam 8,230, Jeonbuk 8,153, Jeonnam 8,071, Busan 6,245, Gyeongbuk 5,908, Gwangju 5,762, Daejeon 5,110, Gangwon 6,238, Ulsan 4,193, Chungbuk 2,654, Jeju 1,141, Sejong 494.

From the 5th for one week, the daily new confirmed cases were 266,103 → 286,270 → 224,801 → 205,333 → 185,566 → 164,481 → 90,928, with a daily average of approximately 203,355 cases.
