[Asia Economy] Kim Taeyoung, chairman of the Gwangju Seo-gu Council, announced his intention not to run in the June 1 local elections and declared his support for Kang Gijeong, the preliminary candidate for mayor of Gwangju.
On the 11th, Chairman Kim held a press conference in his office and stated, “I support Kang Gijeong, a preliminary candidate who is strong in drive, integrity, and well-prepared.”
He continued, “Issues such as the relocation of the military airport, which had stalled under the Moon Jae-in administration, must now be advanced through Kang Gijeong, who has exceptional drive despite now being in the opposition party, to make Gwangju stronger.”
He added, “He is an honest politician who served three terms as a member of the National Assembly and one year and eight months as the Blue House Senior Secretary for Political Affairs without any suspicion of corruption,” emphasizing, “Integrity allows one to be confident, and confidence is necessary to rapidly promote Gwangju’s development.”
Furthermore, he claimed, “Preliminary candidate Kang Gijeong has thoroughly prepared not only the direction for Gwangju’s economy but also culture, arts, youth employment, and other overall areas for Gwangju’s future vision.”
Chairman Kim expressed, “I sincerely thank the residents of Seo-gu for their consistent support and encouragement, which allowed me to meaningfully conclude my legislative activities.”
