[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] On the 11th, President Moon Jae-in sent a condolence message to the bereaved family of the late Colonel William Weber, a hero of the Korean War, expressing his condolences.
In his condolence message, President Moon said, "'Although he lost his limbs in the Korean War, he wanted to spread awareness of the Korean War for the comrades who went to heaven first.' I pay tribute to the late Colonel's sacrifice and dedication, who worked until the end of his life for the freedom and peace of the Republic of Korea," conveying his sympathy.
President Moon met Colonel Weber during his visit to Washington last May for the Korea-US summit, on the occasion of attending the groundbreaking ceremony of the 'Korean War Veterans Memorial Wall.' President Moon said, "The strong appearance of the late Colonel I saw at last year's groundbreaking ceremony is still vivid," and added, "I will not forget and will remember the courage and noble spirit of sacrifice shown by the late Colonel."
President Moon expressed his sincere gratitude for Colonel Weber's significant contributions after his retirement, including serving as chairman of the 'Korean War Veterans Memorial Foundation,' leading efforts to raise awareness of the horrors of the Korean War, and helping establish the Korean War Veterans Memorial Park and the Memorial Wall.
He also prayed for the eternal rest of the late Colonel, saying, "I will continue to strive to ensure that the Korea-US alliance, forged through the blood and tears of American veterans including the late Colonel, remains strong in the future."
