[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Hyun-ji] On the 11th, Kwon Seong-dong, the newly appointed floor leader of the People Power Party, requested Speaker Park Byeong-seok to act as a mediator during a visit to the National Assembly Speaker. He stated that "the parliament has been dominated by the majority party," emphasizing that before cooperation with the Democratic Party of Korea, a balance between the ruling and opposition parties must come first, signaling a tough stance toward the ruling party.
During the meeting at the Speaker's office in Yeouido, Seoul, Floor Leader Kwon said, "Honestly, I want to provide reassurance to the people by practicing politics of cooperation and coexistence, not just talking about cooperation." He added, "Due to the imbalance in the number of seats, from our (People Power Party's) perspective, the parliament has been somewhat unreasonable," and said, "If Speaker Park can maintain a good balance, I believe parliamentary politics will shine even more."
In response to Speaker Park's remark asking, "Can't you make concessions to the Democratic Party?" Kwon replied, "I am willing to make concessions as much as needed, but ultimately, issues related to the fundamental system of the nation are directly connected to the people's interests, so I believe bipartisan agreement is necessary on this matter," adding, "I trust Speaker Park agrees with this as well."
Floor Leader Kwon stated, "I will receive much guidance from Speaker Park going forward and strive to make the National Assembly more harmonious by applying the experience and wisdom I learn from him."
On the same day, Speaker Park congratulated Floor Leader Kwon on his election and requested, "People call you a Yoon core faction member, but please play the role of 'Yoon-gogwan'?someone who gives frank advice and counsel to President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol."
