Kim Jun, SK Ino Vice Chairman, Sets Example with New Employees in 'Sanhaejinmi Plogging'

[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] Kim Jun, Vice Chairman of SK Innovation, participated in a 'Sanhaejinmi Plogging' volunteer activity on the 11th in the Gwancheol-dong area of Jongno-gu, Seoul, together with new employees who joined earlier this year.

According to SK Innovation, Vice Chairman Kim formed teams of fewer than 10 people with the new employees and carried out activities mainly in the alleys near Jonggak Station from the SK Seorin Building. Sanhaejinmi means "Let’s truly (眞) make the mountains (山) and seas (海) beautiful (美)," and it is a plogging campaign that SK Innovation has been promoting since last year. Plogging is a volunteer activity that involves picking up trash while walking or jogging. Vice Chairman Kim said, "The circular economy, which SK Innovation is focusing on, starts with seemingly trivial actions such as separating and disposing of waste plastics," and urged the new employees to take the lead in expanding the circular economy through practical ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) activities including plogging.

Coincidentally, that day marked the 100th day since the SK Innovation new employees joined the company. After the volunteer activity, Vice Chairman Kim shared celebratory rice cakes with the new employees and repeatedly offered congratulations. At this occasion, he encouraged them by saying, "As new employees, do not fear making mistakes, dream big, and create your own bold story to lead SK Inno’s 'Financial Story'." The Financial Story refers to a growth story that includes not only traditional financial performance such as sales and operating profit but also goals and concrete execution plans that the market finds attractive, aiming to gain trust and empathy from stakeholders such as customers, investors, and the market.

SK Innovation has designated the two weeks starting from the 18th as 'Sanhaejinmi Plogging Week' and will engage in plogging activities at all domestic and overseas business sites. The company stated that it views volunteer activities such as plogging not merely as simple social contribution activities by members but as a cornerstone for successfully implementing ESG management as a corporate culture, and is preparing various activities accordingly. The Sanhaejinmi plogging activity expanded into a nationwide campaign last year, with more than 160,000 citizens participating. The distance walked by these participants for plogging was approximately 300,000 km, which is similar to circling the Earth eight times.
