[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Byeongno Lee, a preliminary candidate for Damyang County Governor, is targeting voters by presenting future development strategies for Damyang through thorough policy pledges, and announced the development plans for each eup and myeon as his fifth policy pledge.
Byeongno Lee, the Democratic Party preliminary candidate for Damyang County Governor, emphasized in a press release on the 11th that “Balanced regional development policies are important for sustainable development of Damyang along with the construction of a 70,000 population Damyang.”
Having led county development for over 40 years, candidate Lee stated, “After retirement, in order to design a ‘New Damyang Construction,’ I met with residents of the 12 eup and myeon every day without fail to listen to public opinion, through which I could feel the lack of detailed policies.”
He particularly diagnosed that “It is urgent to improve residential environments and welfare responses to overcome the lack of living welfare infrastructure and the decline of urban infrastructure caused by population decline and aging, as well as to discover new industries.”
To this end, candidate Lee first proposed joint projects for the 12 eup and myeon to improve residents’ living conditions.
These include “strengthening the functions of Damyang County Public Health Center to shift to demand-tailored support, expanding facilities to secure stable water sources, installing a second sewage treatment plant, completing a tourism belt by clustering pavilions and gardens in the 12 eup and myeon, and creating a second eco-industrial complex.”
Next, candidate Lee introduced major policy projects by region.
First, in the area of Changpyeong-myeon and Goseo-myeon, he revealed plans to “hasten the supply of city gas, create Changpyeong traditional gardens, and establish the nation’s first traditional local food agro-industrial complex as a new future development strategy.”
He also promised “the construction of the Damyang section of the Gwangjuho Trail, the expansion of the four-lane road on National Road 60 from Goseo to Mujeong, and the conversion of the Honam Expressway section from Goseo to Daedeok into a general road.”
In the Daedeok and Gasamunhak-myeon region, he stated, “We will actively introduce policies to transform the area into a representative eco-friendly agricultural product supply base in Korea.”
He emphasized, “We will build a joint seedling nursery for the region’s representative specialty, strawberries, establish an R&D center to support the development of high-quality new varieties responding to the climate crisis, and promote the creation of highland specialized crop cultivation complexes.”
In the Daejeon, Subuk, and Bongsan-myeon region, he presented a blueprint to actively introduce smart development strategies for eco-friendly housing complex development and real estate value enhancement.
Specifically, he promised “urban regeneration and landscape creation, preservation and development resource utilization of Saminsan, Yonggusan, and Bultaesan mountains, establishment of large-scale distribution logistics centers, comprehensive urban development of Daejeon-myeon, attraction of country house complexes, relocation of Hansol Paper, and continued relocation of military units.”
Furthermore, in the Mujeong, Yong-myeon, and Geumseong-myeon areas, he emphasized “establishing mid- to long-term development strategies related to the Dalbit Inland Railroad, regional landscape creation in Yongbuk and Yongnam, eco-friendly development of Chuwolsan and Gamagol, development of golf leisure resorts, creation of military-friendly social infrastructure, park development along Orye Stream, and conversion of aging industrial complexes into smart industrial complexes.”
Candidate Byeongno Lee stated, “We will prepare countermeasures for urgent issues by region and pursue future-oriented regional development strategies reflecting residents’ opinions,” and stressed, “Through balanced regional development, we will surely lead a new sustainable Damyang where 50,000 residents are happy.”
Meanwhile, candidate Byeongno Lee is evaluated to have demonstrated administrative capabilities to efficiently resolve various issues by serving as director of Damyang County Agricultural Food Distribution Office, head of investment attraction team, and director of the Autonomous Innovation Bureau for over 40 years.
