100,000 Azalea Plants and Cultural Experience Program 'Bulamsan Cheoljjukdongsan' on Fire?

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Nowon-gu (District Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that it will promote the 'Spring Special Program' at Bulamsan Healing Town Azalea Hill from April 12 to May 8 as the azalea blooming season approaches.

Bulamsan Azalea Hill (located at 51-27, Hangulbiseok-ro 12-gil, covering an area of 8,400㎡) features a barrier-free walking trail, along which 100,000 mountain azalea plants have been planted. Despite COVID-19 last year, the site was greatly loved by residents, with over 90,000 visitors during the approximately three-week azalea blooming period.

With the recent easing of social distancing measures, the district expects an increase in visitors to the Azalea Hill this year and plans to operate special programs, expand staff, and provide temporary parking lots to help visitors enjoy their spring outings.

First, various experiential programs will be operated using major facilities within Bulamsan Healing Town. These include ▲'Insect Soap Making' at Bulamsan Butterfly Garden ▲'Ice Cup Recycled Planter Making' at Nowon Garden Support Center ▲'Health Check and Aroma Self-Massage' and 'Healing Dream (Forest 5-piece Set)' at Bulamsan Forest Healing Center ▲'Azalea Fan Making' at Bulamsan Children's Forest Experience Center. Participation fees range from free to 5,000 KRW, and those wishing to join can register on-site.

A variety of artistic performances enjoyable for all ages are also prepared. Performances will be held on four days (April 23, 24, 30, and May 1), four times a day (1 PM, 2 PM, 3 PM, and 4 PM) at various locations throughout Azalea Hill, including Bulamsan Healing Garden and Healing Shelter.

▲Puppet shows such as ‘Grandpa Mangtae is Coming’ and ‘String Performances’ ▲Circus shows like ‘Circus Olympics’ and ‘Solo Circus’ ▲Clown plays including ‘Black Clown,’ ‘Style,’ and ‘Novice Carpenter and Wooden Puppet’ ▲Drawing show ‘Croquis Brothers’ ▲Dance and experiential play ‘Cradle’ ▲Musical drama ‘Traveling Troupe Selling Luck’ ▲Soap bubble performances such as ‘Gyeongsang-do Soap Bubbles’ representing street art genres previously held in Nowon-gu ▲Aerial performance ‘Dandiuhwa’ ▲Parade performances ‘Family Outing’ and ‘Harmony in Honey’ are expected to captivate visitors.

An information booth will be installed in front of Bulamsan Butterfly Garden to distribute leaflets and other materials, and two food trucks offering simple drinks and snacks will operate behind the Healing Shelter from 11 AM to 8 PM.

Special parking measures have also been prepared. In addition to the permanent parking lot at Bulamsan Healing Town (52 spaces), temporary parking lots will be operated. On six weekends expected to be crowded from April 23 to May 8, a total of 80 spaces will be opened at Wonkwang Elementary School parking lot (30 spaces) and Junggye Middle School playground (50 spaces).

Furthermore, some roads around Bulamsan Healing Town will temporarily allow parking by suspending parking enforcement. This applies from April 11 to May 29 (7 weeks), from 9 AM to 6 PM, covering the sections in front of Junggye Children's Library (300m) and Junggye Jugong Apartments Complex 4 and 5 (310m).

The district will cooperate with the Model Drivers Association, Volunteer Center, and others to expand traffic control and parking staff, increase cleaning and environmental maintenance personnel, and do its best to ensure no inconvenience in using facilities such as restrooms.

Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, said, "I hope people recover their weary hearts from COVID-19 through the azaleas blooming in Azalea Hill and the diverse cultural programs," and added, "Please actively cooperate with the guidance of safety personnel and, if possible, use public transportation."
