USFK Soldier Arrested for Breaking Girlfriend's Front Door and Assaulting Her After Breakup Notice

[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] A U.S. Forces Korea soldier was arrested by the police for assaulting his girlfriend who had broken up with him and breaking the front door.

On the 11th, the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul announced that they arrested A (24), a member of the air defense battalion of the U.S. Forces Korea with Puerto Rican nationality, on charges of property damage and assault at a house in Nonhyeon-dong, Gangnam-gu, the previous morning.

A is accused of breaking the glass of the front door of his girlfriend B's house with his fist and assaulting B when she tried to stop him.

The police who arrived at the scene found broken glass fragments and other damage evidence, and confirmed through the U.S. 8th Army Military Police that A was a member of the U.S. Forces Korea.

The police handed A over to the U.S. military police, and since the victim does not want to press charges for assault, the investigation will focus on the property damage charge. Under general criminal law, if the victim expresses opposition, the perpetrator is not punished for assault.
