Hydrogen Public, Private, and Academic Sectors from Both Countries Gather in One Place
"Expectations for Revitalizing the Hydrogen Economy"
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Sun-mi] KOTRA is hosting the ‘2022 Korea-Canada Hydrogen Economy Forum and Consultation’ to promote the hydrogen economy between Korea and Canada.
According to KOTRA on the 11th, this event was organized to accelerate the creation of a hydrogen ecosystem and respond to global climate change through mutual exchanges such as joint research and development (R&D), technology exchange, and investment between companies from both countries. This is the second event following the ‘2021 Korea-Canada Energy Forum’ held in July last year.
At the forum held on the 12th, major associations and institutions including the Government of British Columbia, Canada, Edmonton Metropolitan Economic Development, Alberta Industrial Heartland Association (AIHA), Hydrogen Convergence Alliance (H2KOREA), Korea Gas Corporation, Ulsan Free Economic Zone Authority, K-CCUS Promotion Group, and the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Vancouver will participate to introduce the current status and cases in the hydrogen economy value chain sectors of both countries.
The forum will cover topics such as ‘Hydrogen Production Using Natural Gas’ by the Alberta provincial government, the hydrogen industry and strategy of the British Columbia provincial government, introduction of Ulsan’s hydrogen industry ecosystem and investment environment, and collaboration cases between Loop Energy and NGIF EI.
Following the forum, a one-on-one follow-up consultation session will be held for about three weeks to broadly support product exports, investment attraction, and technology cooperation based on the demands of participating companies. In particular, with growing interest in hydrogen energy in terms of fulfilling greenhouse gas reduction obligations and energy security, arrangements for consultations to support domestic companies’ joint local R&D and participation in provincial government projects will be strengthened.
Park Sung-ho, Head of KOTRA’s North America Regional Headquarters, stated, “Korea has strengths in hydrogen utilization, and Canada has advanced technology in production and storage, so we expect a complementary role between the two countries,” adding, “We hope this event will serve as a catalyst for both countries to leap forward in the hydrogen economy.”
