[Box Office] 'Super Sonic 2' Smiles, Starts First Weekend at No. 1

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Isul] The movie 'Sonic the Hedgehog 2' topped the box office during its opening weekend.

According to the Korea Film Council's integrated ticketing system on the 11th, 'Sonic the Hedgehog 2' attracted 111,096 viewers over the three-day weekend (8th?10th), securing the number one spot at the box office. Since its release on the 6th, it has recorded a cumulative audience of 129,742, surpassing the 118,725 viewers of the previous film 'Sonic the Hedgehog' (2020) in just five days.

'Sonic the Hedgehog 2' depicts the battle between hero Sonic and his new partner Tails against the super villains Knuckles and the genius villain Robotnik. Although it stayed between 2nd and 4th place after release, it overtook other films released simultaneously during the opening weekend to claim first place.

Marvel's antihero 'Morbius' drew 62,508 viewers, dropping to second place. Released on the 30th of last month, its cumulative audience reached 425,506.

Michael Bay's 'Ambulance,' released on the 6th, attracted 53,265 viewers, entering third place, while the comedy film 'Stella,' starring Son Hojun and also released on the same day, drew 39,284 viewers, remaining in fourth place.

Additionally, 'Louis Wain: The Painter of Cats Who Loved' entered fifth place, and Kim Hyeyoon's 'The Girl on the Bulldozer' ranked ninth.

The number of moviegoers last weekend was 344,256, about 5,000 fewer than the previous week's 359,461. This is similar to this year's lowest weekend audience of 342,740.
