Thorough Verification Urged for Yoon Administration Personnel Appointments
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyun-joo] Former Minister of Justice Cho Kuk argued that the same verification standards applied to him should also be applied to the personnel of the new government.
On the 10th, Cho posted on his Facebook, raising his voice, saying, "Apply the 'Yoon Seok-yeol (President-elect) standard' used for the Cho family to the Yoon Seok-yeol family and the personnel of the Yoon administration."
Earlier that day, news of the deteriorating health of Cho's wife, former Dongyang University professor Jeong Gyeong-sim, was also reported. After the cancellation of their daughter Jo's admission to the Busan National University Medical School and Korea University Department of Environmental Ecology Engineering, Jeong was transferred to an external hospital the previous day. Jeong is currently serving a four-year prison sentence confirmed by the Supreme Court in January for charges including admission fraud involving her children.
On the 8th, Cho also urged thorough verification of high-ranking official candidates nominated by President-elect Yoon. Through Facebook, he said, "'Yoon Seok-yeol's prosecution' failed to imprison the Minister of Justice nominee over the private equity fund case but removed him by raising issues about his child's internships and experiential activities and imprisoned his spouse." He added, "As a result, the child's admission was canceled. Thanks to this investigation, Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol quickly established himself as a presidential candidate. It was a grand political success and a plan to slaughter the entire family."
Cho continued, "As a legal scholar, I have humbly followed and will continue to follow the results of 'rule of law,' but this 'rule of law' must also be applied to President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol, his family, and the high-ranking official candidates he nominates." He also requested, "I ask President-elect Yoon, the prosecution, the media, and the National Assembly to now apply the same standards used for me and my family to verify the appointed high-ranking officials of President Yoon."
