[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Kim Byeong-nae, a preliminary candidate for mayor of Gwangju Nam-gu, announced on the 10th that the opening ceremony of the election office was successfully concluded.
Candidate Kim had planned to keep the office open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. without holding a main event for the convenience of supporters visiting the election office that day. However, the office was crowded with supporters from 9 a.m., and the line of visitors continued without stopping, so the opening ceremony was concluded after 8 p.m.
At the opening ceremony, National Assembly member Lee Byung-hoon visited the office earlier, and visits continued from various sectors including National Assembly member Yoon Young-duk, Gwangju Mayor Lee Yong-seop, former Blue House Senior Secretary for Political Affairs Kang Ki-jung, May 18-related personnel, and residents of Nam-gu.
Candidate Kim appealed, “I will successfully complete the work I have done as the 7th elected mayor of Nam-gu and work again with sincerity and passion for the continuous development of Nam-gu’s 220,000 residents,” asking for support with the slogans ‘Passion, Promise’ and ‘Kim Byeong-nae who works well.’
Candidate Kim pledged, “People who want to work find ways, and those who do not want to work find excuses,” and “As much as I have always received support for the development of Nam-gu, I will work with the attitude of ‘Mabu-wichim’ (perseverance) and repay with the completion of ‘Happy Nam-gu.’”
National Assembly member Yoon Young-duk emphasized, “I am working together with Mayor Kim Byeong-nae for the development of Nam-gu and navigating central government ministries,” and said, “I will create a wonderful Nam-gu together with capable and hardworking Mayor Kim Byeong-nae.”
Gwangju Mayor Lee Yong-seop and former Blue House Senior Secretary for Political Affairs Kang Ki-jung unanimously said, “Candidate Kim Byeong-nae is famous as a mayor with the ability to work well, but his passion and effort to solve problems through excellent skinship are unmatched by anyone.”
Residents who visited the election office unanimously highly evaluated the numerous achievements made by Mayor Kim Byeong-nae during the 7th elected term and urged him to work harder for the sustainable development of Nam-gu.
Meanwhile, Candidate Kim, born in Yeonggwang, Jeollanam-do, graduated from Jodae High School and Gwangju University. He served as president of the student council at Gwangju University, aide to a National Assembly member, director of the Gwangju City Hall Civil Complaints Office, deputy spokesperson of the Democratic Party of Korea Central Party, and vice chairman of the Democratic Party Policy Committee.
Having served as an administrative officer at the Blue House Senior Secretary for Political Affairs during the Moon Jae-in administration, he ran for mayor of Gwangju Nam-gu in the 7th nationwide local elections in 2018 and was elected as the youngest local government head in the Honam region. He currently serves as a policy advisory member of the Presidential Committee on Autonomy and Decentralization and a policy advisory member of the Korea Sports Council.
