Minister Nominee Kim Hyun-sook's Statement
"Need to Address Population, Family, and Child Issues"
"Establish Ministry's Role to Resolve Gender Conflicts and Youth Challenges"
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] Kim Hyun-sook, the nominee for Minister of Gender Equality and Family, said on the 10th that "it is difficult to predict when the ministry will be reorganized."
At a press conference held by the transition committee in Tongui-dong, Seoul, Kim made this remark in response to reporters' questions following President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol's cabinet appointments announcement.
Kim said, "Several years ago, during the 19th National Assembly, I worked as a secretary of the Gender Equality and Family Committee and handled the ministry's affairs, but much time has passed since then, so we need to address gender conflicts and generational conflicts in a way that fits the new era."
She added, "Regarding family issues, as you know, there are single-person households and various types of families, so we will create policies suitable for the new era. We will communicate humbly with the public, cooperate with the opposition party, and gather sufficient opinions to transform the ministry into a new one that can open the future."
In her statement on the day, Kim said, "I am deeply aware of the public's interest and concerns about the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, and as a ministerial candidate, I feel a great sense of responsibility."
Kim stated, "Based on the experience I have accumulated on the front lines of policy, I will oversee population, family, and child issues and establish a new role for the ministry that can resolve the gender conflicts and difficulties faced by the younger generation in our society."
She concluded, "In that process, I will communicate humbly and openly with the public and gather wisdom to create a better future."
