[Breaking] Lee Chang-yang "Planning Industrial Policy to Overcome Transition... Will Communicate Closely with Entrepreneurs"

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyemin] Lee Chang-yang, the nominee for the first Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy under the Yoon Seok-yeol administration, stated on the 10th, "I will devise industrial policies that enable our economy, which is at a turning point, to make a leap forward."

During a Q&A session held at the transition committee office in Tongui-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, Lee said, "Our industry is undergoing a major transformation due to digital transition, carbon transition, and hegemonic competition including between the U.S. and China."

He emphasized, "We will enhance corporate vitality through regulatory reform and develop strategies as partners between companies and the government through close communication with businesspeople. We will raise technological competitiveness to overcome challenges."

Regarding the controversy over his 2010 media contribution advocating the introduction of a 'childbirth avoidance burden charge,' he added, "At the end of the column, it is mentioned that while theoretically possible, it is not feasible in reality. Please consider it as merely presenting various opinions on low birth rates."
