Opening of the New Multipurpose Government Building in Jamsilbon-dong, Songpa-gu

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Songpa-gu (Mayor Park Seong-su) held the opening ceremony for the newly constructed Jamsilbon-dong Office Building, a major pledge project of the 7th local government, on the 8th, marking the birth of a new community hub space.

The new office building is a new-concept complex facility where residents can use not only the community center but also cultural and administrative welfare facilities all in one place.

Mayor Park Seong-su explained the background of the reconstruction, saying, “The reconstruction of the Jamsilbon-dong Office has been a 10-year wish of the residents. The old office building was built in 1984, and not only was the facility outdated, but it was also located on a side road, making accessibility poor and causing many complaints.”

The complex office building was planned in 2018, construction began in June 2020, and was completed last March. To rebuild the old Jamsilbon-dong Office, the district office went through continuous consultations and persuasion with the Seoul Metropolitan Government. As a result, the reconstruction was promoted by exchanging the current Jamsil Neighborhood Park site, which has high accessibility, with the old office site.

After about two years of construction, the newly opened Jamsilbon-dong Complex Office is a building with two basement floors and five above-ground floors. It houses the community center, a shared childcare space, a small library, a senior citizens' center, a fitness room, a village caf?, a multipurpose room, and other complex cultural and shared resident spaces. In particular, to address the frequent complaints about parking at the old office, 11 parking spaces were installed on the second basement floor, greatly improving convenience.

The opening ceremony proceeded with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, a tour of the office facilities, congratulatory performances, and a commemorative rice cake cutting.

A resident who attended the opening ceremony said, “I look forward to enjoying the greenery of Jamsil Neighborhood Park while taking walks and borrowing books from the small library in the complex office building.”

Mayor Park Seong-su said, “I am very pleased that the Jamsilbon-dong Complex Office, a 10-year wish of local residents and a major pledge project of the 7th local government, has opened today, meeting the support and expectations of many people. We will provide high-quality public services for all age groups, from children to seniors, and continuously improve the aging urban environment to further enhance the quality of life for Songpa residents.”
