[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] CU announced on the 10th that it will hold a Black Week event to celebrate Black Day starting from the 11th for one week, offering discounts on jajang and stir-fried cup noodles.
During this event, six products including Jjajjaroni Large Cup, Mayo Jjajang Bokki, Jjajang Buldak Bokkeummyeon, Ramyeon Bokki, Cheese Bokki, and Spaghetti will be offered at a 33% discount when paid with the event card. These products are part of the 2+1 promotion this month, and with additional affiliated card discounts, customers can get more than 50% off.
According to CU, last year’s Black Day jajang ramen sales were highest among people in their 40s. By age group, 40s accounted for 32.5%, 20s 26.1%, 30s 19.8%, teens 8.8%, 50s 8.7%, and 60s and older 4.1%. Black Day, which began to be known in the early 2000s, is a commemorative day more familiar to people in their 40s than to the MZ generation (Millennials + Generation Z). It is analyzed that this is because single people in their 40s, who have passed the typical marriage age, have a stronger tendency to comfort and encourage themselves through this commemorative day.
A BGF Retail official said, “It is a very interesting phenomenon that the purchase share of people in their 40s, rather than the trend-sensitive 20s and 30s, is increasing on Black Day, a holiday for singles,” adding, “We will continue to conduct precise data analysis to present differentiated marketing that can satisfy the diverse demands of customers.”
