[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shin Dong-ho] The “Centenarian Youth! Happy Companionship! Gwangju Seo-gu Hyo Car” project, which has been underway since last year in Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, is receiving great responses.
According to Seo-gu on the 8th, the “Hyo Car” project is the nation’s first initiative implemented to support leisure activities for elderly people with mobility difficulties. Two medium-sized vans have been converted into slope-equipped vehicles for the disabled and have been shared with Seo-gu residents since July last year.
The target users of the Seo-gu Hyo Car are elderly people aged 65 or older who have difficulty moving without assistance. If either the elderly person with mobility difficulties or one family member is registered as a resident in Gwangju Seo-gu, they can use the Hyo Car.
This shared vehicle can be used for up to 5 days, including one public holiday per month. The usage fee is free, but users are responsible for any costs incurred during operation, such as fuel expenses, tolls, fines, and penalties.
A Seo-gu official said, “As spring flowers bloom fully and the temperature warms up, making it a good season for outings, we hope the dutiful sons and daughters of Seo-gu will use the Hyo Car to create precious spring memories with their parents.”
Residents who wish to use the service can contact the Gwangju Seo-gu Office’s Aging Society Policy Division for detailed information.
