[Asia Economy Reporter Minji Lee] The prosecution has requested a reinvestigation from the police, who had dismissed the allegations of 'Eastar Air unfair hiring' against independent lawmaker Sangjik Lee.

According to related industry sources on the 7th, the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office reviewed the case records and determined that a reinvestigation was necessary, subsequently requesting the Gangseo Police Station in Seoul to conduct a reinvestigation.

Lawmaker Lee has been under investigation on suspicion of receiving bribes in exchange for recommending certain applicants to the HR team during the 2014-2015 flight attendant recruitment process alongside former Eastar Air CEO Choi Jong-gu, resulting in the hiring of applicants who did not meet the recruitment criteria.

After media reports raised these allegations last year, the Civic Group for Judicial Exam Preparation (Sajunmo) filed a complaint against Lee and others with the Supreme Prosecutors' Office. The Gangseo Police Station, which took over the investigation, decided last month not to prosecute, stating that "apart from the unclear media reports, there is no evidence to acknowledge the suspects' charges."
