"With Skill and Passion, We Will Bring New Hope to the People"
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] Former Democratic Party of Korea leader Song Young-gil announced on the 7th that he has registered as a candidate for the Seoul mayoral primary.
Through Facebook on the same day, former leader Song explained his reason for running, saying, "If a catalyst is needed for victory in the local elections, I believe it is my destiny as a former party leader not to avoid or ignore it."
He added, "Fortunately, thanks to the great interest many people have shown in my actions, instead of the disappointment right after the presidential election, there are now many who say, 'Maybe this local election is worth trying.' I will change 'worth trying' to 'can do it.'"
He continued, "I will weave together the hopes and earnest desires of each party member to lead the victory in the local elections, and with that strength, become a catalyst for the Democratic Party of Korea to be a confident pillar in national governance. I will do my best to offer new hope to party members and the public solely through ability and passion."
