Resident Evacuation and Partial Property Damage
[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Nayeon] A woman in her 30s who set fire to her home alone after arguing with her husband over financial difficulties was arrested by the police.
Incheon Michuhol Police Station announced on the 6th that they have booked and are investigating a woman in her 30s, Ms. A, without detention on suspicion of arson of a building.
Ms. A is suspected of setting fire to the living room and master bedroom of her third-floor villa residence in Michuhol-gu, Incheon, at around 1:17 a.m. the previous day.
The fire caused 17 residents to evacuate, partially burned the interior of the house, resulting in property damage estimated at 8,826,000 KRW (according to the fire department), and the fire department responded to the report and extinguished the fire within 25 minutes.
According to the police investigation, Ms. A set fire to her clothes and committed arson while alone at home after arguing with her husband over financial difficulties. At the time, her husband was reportedly at a friend's house with their child.
The police are investigating the circumstances of the crime based on Ms. A's statement that she committed the act in a moment of anger.
