3040, Women, and Democratic Party Supporters Blame Yoon
60s and Older, Men, and People Power Party Supporters Hold Moon Responsible
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] A public opinion survey revealed that Seoul citizens believe the responsibility for the conflict between the old and new powers lies more with President-elect Yoon Seok-yeol.
According to a survey conducted by Realmeter on behalf of Asia Economy from April 4 to 5 targeting 1,015 men and women aged 18 and over residing in Seoul (90% mobile, 10% landline, automated response), 51.6% answered that President-elect Yoon bears more responsibility for the conflict between the old and new powers.
The response rate for President Moon Jae-in was 43.5%. The proportion of respondents who said President-elect Yoon was more responsible was 8.1 percentage points higher than for President Moon, which is beyond the margin of error.
Respondents who viewed President-elect Yoon as more responsible were relatively higher in Seoul’s Gangbuk West area (57.3%) and Gangbuk East area (54.8%), among those in their 40s (63.8%) and 30s (60.8%), women (55.8%), and supporters of the Democratic Party of Korea (93.6%).
On the other hand, groups who saw President Moon as more responsible were higher in Gangnam East area (51.9%) and Gangnam West area (47.0%), those aged 60 and over (54.8%), men (46.9%), supporters of the People Power Party (84.9%), and supporters of the People’s Party (72.1%).
※ How the survey was conducted = This survey was commissioned by Asia Economy and conducted by Realmeter over two days, April 4 and 5. Calls were attempted to 80,938 voters aged 18 and over residing in Seoul, with a final 1,015 respondents completing the survey, resulting in a response rate of 1.3%. The survey used an automated response method with 90% mobile and 10% landline calls, employing a random digit dialing sampling frame. Statistical adjustments were made using rim weighting based on gender, age group, and region according to the resident registration population statistics from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety as of the end of March 2022. The sampling error is ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
