[Asia Economy Reporter No Woo-rae] ○…Rory McIlroy (Northern Ireland), who is challenging to become the sixth 'Career Grand Slammer' in global golf history, welcomed the return of 'Golf Emperor' Tiger Woods (USA) to the Masters.

At a press conference held on the 6th (Korean time) at Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia, USA, he said, "I knew it," and "We often played golf together in the neighborhood." He added, "His shots were sharp," and predicted, "Walking 72 holes might be a challenge, but I wouldn't be surprised no matter what he accomplishes." Woods suffered a severe leg fracture in a car accident in February last year and, after rehabilitation, is returning to the field after 1 year and 5 months since the 'Autumn Masters' in November 2020.

Fellow players expressed both welcome and caution. 2013 champion Adam Scott (Australia) said, "Woods' return is a historic event," and predicted, "He will be a threat to the title contenders." Fred Couples (USA), who played practice rounds with him, evaluated, "He showed very powerful shots," and said, "If he can walk 72 holes, he will join the competition for the championship." Patrick Cantlay (USA) expressed anticipation, saying, "Tournaments where Woods participates are always different."
